Hosting a Dinner Party When Guests Have Food Allergies

Gluten-free, dairy-free, nut allergies and more. How to plan a menu where every guest eats well and nobody feels singled out.

Allergies and dietary restrictions are part of almost every dinner we cook. The goal is not to make a separate sad plate for one guest; it is to design a menu where everyone gets something great.

Start with a full list

Ask every guest ahead of time. Allergies, intolerances, religious and ethical preferences all shape the menu, and it is far easier to build them in from the first draft than to adjust at the last minute.

Design for overlap

  • Choose dishes that are naturally free of the main allergens
  • Keep sauces and garnishes on the side when needed
  • Label anything on a buffet clearly
  • Prep allergen-free components first, with clean tools

When Room 32 builds your menu, allergies are designed in from the start, so every guest gets the same experience.
